Quakertown park naming rights up for grabs

Quakertown officials will be visiting with potential donors in coming weeks in hopes of finding a name for their newest park, currently under construction in the borough.
Located on the former Krupp Foundry property at Mill and Fourth streets, the currently unnamed park has garnered outside interest from those looking to make monetary contributions to the project.
At Monday’s Quakertown Council work session, borough manager Scott McElree revealed that these donors would be given the opportunity to name the facilities to their liking.
“There’s a couple of interested larger donors that the park committee members will be visiting in the next week or two,” he said. “They’d actually be naming right donors, so they would make a large donation and have the option to have either the amphitheater or the park named after them.”
McElree had yet to meet with the potential donors and was unable to identify them Tuesday, but said that park planners intend to continue to engage with them in coming days.
The borough manager also provided some information on the status of the ongoing park construction.
“The gazebo has been completed and the foundation has been put in,” he said. “It’s much bigger than I thought it would be. It’s looking good.”
McElree also spoke of a delay in the second phase of construction due to drainage issues among other things, but maintained that the project was on pace for completion as planned.
“We’ve dealt with one or two [changes] but we’re still moving forward,” he said. “It is coming along very nicely.”
The Borough of Quakertown will have its next full meeting on August 6th.
