Pregnant teen falls through Allentown roof, police say

There were heart-stopping moments in Allentown early Wednesday morning as a pregnant teen fell 30 feet to the ground from a rooftop.
Officials said the girl was trying to retrieve a baby gate when a piece of wood gave way, allowing the girl to fall.
"We were cleaning the room, and we didn't need that in the room, so we put it outside," said Yerika Del Orbe, an eyewitness to the accident.
That's when people living at 100 Ninth Street in Allentown said things got really scary.
A 15-year-old girl, seven months pregnant, went out onto the second story roof to get a baby gate that is used in the apartment.
"She wanted to get the gate so the baby won't come down the stairs," added Del Orbe, "because she likes to come down the stairs."
"As she was traversing the roof between two addresses the plywood gave through," said Asst. Chief Joe Hanna, Allentown Police Dept.
Investigators said the teen fell 30 feet into a concrete stairwell.
People living in the apartment tried to stop the bleeding from a cut to the girl's head.
"She didn't remember how she fell, but she was talking to me," said Del Orbe.
Eventually, Allentown EMS transported the teen to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Twp., Lehigh Co.
Investigators said they will try to speak with the victim one more time before closing the case.
"They did speak with her briefly," added Hanna. "As I said, she was conscious and she was communicating, but was a bit confused. So, as a result of that, we'll probably do a follow up with her."
"She hit her head really hard, so she got stitches," said Del Orbe. "She told me that the baby is fine."
Investigators said they have forwarded a copy of the case to city building inspectors.
People living with the teen said she may be released from the hospital Thursday.
