Two Pottstown police officers were attacked while while trying to help a shooting victim early Sunday outside the Montgomery Elks Lodge, according to police.
Around 2:30 a.m., Pottstown police responded to a shooting outside of the lodge.
"He was out here laying down, probably dying or at least bleeding a lot," said Daniel Garcia, a security officer.
Garcia recalls the moments that preceded the shooting.
"I guess, some people came by in a car, called the guy by his name. And he turned around and started to walk to the car. He was shot twice. Once in the arm, once in the leg," Garcia said.
According to police, a crowd then emerged from the lodge.
"It was total chaos, out of control," Garcia said.
According to police, at least two men attacked the pair of officers. A bystander jumped in to help police.
Backup officers rushed in from more than 15 surrounding agencies, before heading to a home on Manatawney Street to search for the shooting suspect, a 69 news crew reports.
Police believe the shooting was not a random act.
The shooting suspect is still at large. Police are not releasing the suspect's name at this time.
Chad Watson and Brooklyn Aiken, both of Pottstown, were taken in to custody for the assault of the officers, police said.
Police did not release the name of the injured officers or the victim of the shooting, but confirmed all three were treated at local hospitals.
The investigation is ongoing.
