POTTSTOWN, Pa. -

The Pottstown Memorial Medical Center is celebrating National Volunteer Week by saying thanks to its many volunteers.

The hospital hosted a volunteer appreciation dinner at the Brookside Country Club in Pottstown on Thursday.

PMMC has more than 175 volunteers, including "volunteens" who actively assist in various departments throughout the hospital.

"Everyday a volunteer is making a difference in someone’s life," said Sharon Steinmetz, manager of volunteer services. "We salute our volunteers and appreciate the fine service they provide at PMMC."

Three of the volunteers were inducted into the 3,000 Hour Club, which was started in 1990. The club currently has more than 50 active members.

The hospital also paid tribute to the volunteers and volunteens who passed away in the last year.

Last year, volunteers gave more than 35,000 hours of service to the hospital, officials said.
