The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission wants to speed things up when it comes to switching electricity suppliers.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission wants to speed things up when it comes to switching electricity suppliers.

The PUC is drafting a new plan that would require utility companies like PPL and Met-Ed to shorten the time it takes to switch customers to new suppliers.

The proposal comes after the Commission was bombarded with consumer complaints this winter about variable electricity rates and soaring bills.

Under the new plan, the companies would have to complete the switch within three business days.

The process currently takes eleven to forty days.

The PUC is seeking customer comment on the plan.
