Police witness fatal shooting in Hazleton; suspect in custody

HAZLETON, Pa. -

A Hazleton man is behind bars, facing criminal homicide charges after a shooting early Sunday outside a bar.

Police say 26-year old-Terrance Clarke started shooting outside Shakers Bar at 711 West Broad St. around 2 a.m.

One man was shot and killed. He was identified as 45-year-old Garey S. Cox of the 100 block of East Eighth Street, Hazleton.

The Lehigh County coroner's office said Cox was pronounced dead at 8:20 a.m. Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Twp., Lehigh Co.

Cox died of a gunshot wound to the body, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Another man was also hit- he's in the hospital.

Police say two state troopers who were on patrol witnessed the shooting they say they chased after Clarke and eventually caught up to him.

An autopsy is set for Monday.

The Lehigh County coroner's office and the Hazleton Police Department are investigating.
