PALMER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

A woman is facing a felony charge after she tried to shoplift food and a piece of cookware from a supermarket in Northampton County, officials said.

Renee Whitmore didn't pay for $21.56 worth of merchandise while she was using the self- checkout counter at the Redner's Warehouse store at 3745 Nicholas St., Palmer Township, around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

The stolen goods included a $5.38 New York Strip steak, a $3.49 container of seafood bisque, fresh cut watermelon costing $5.61 and a $2.09 curry skillet, officials said.

Whitmore pleaded guilty to retail theft in Whitehall Township, Lehigh Co., on Feb. 7, 1985, and in Plumstead Township, Bucks Co., on May 13, 1998, officials noted.

Whitmore, 45, of 4280 Crosswinds Drive, Palmer Township, was arraigned on the felony retail theft charge and then released on her own recognizance, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 13.
