State police have released more information about a fatal accident that closed Route 22 East in Lehigh County for several hours Monday evening.
The accident happened around 4:40 p.m. near mile marker 315 in Upper Macungie Township, near the Interstate 78 split.
According to police, a pickup truck was traveling east on Route 22 in the right lane, and a tractor trailer was parked on the right shoulder of Route 22.
For an unknown reason, the pickup truck left the road and hit the left rear of the tractor trailer, police said.
Wayne Leibensperger Jr., 21, of Salisbury Township, died at the scene, according to the Lehigh County coroner's office.
An autopsy Wednesday showed Leibensperger died of multiple traumatic injuries, and the death was ruled an accident.
Leibensperger was a passenger in the pickup truck, which was driven by a 22-year-oild man, whom officials did not identify. The driver was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital with moderate injuries.
The 58-year-old tractor trailer operator was also taken to LVH with minor injuries.
Route 22's eastbound lanes were closed for more than five hours.
The Lehigh County coroner's office and state police are investigating.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call state police at Fogelsville at 610-395-1438.
