Police look for auto vandals

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. -

Police in western Berks County are looking for the public's help in tracking down whoever is responsible for vandalizing vehicles at a car dealership and several other locations in four municipalities.

Police said acts of vandalism happened between Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9 in the townships of Lower Heidelberg, South Heidelberg, and Spring along with Sinking Spring borough.

Police said many of the incidents involved a person or persons smashing car windows with rocks. In total, more than 20 cars were damaged, including eight that had paint scratched at Performance Toyota in Lower Heidelberg Township.

"A gentleman came by and walked down each side of these eight cars right here and keyed them," said Anthony Curtis, general sales manager. "However, he didn't realize we have that camera right there."

Curtis said they sent the surveillance video out to be enhanced and are working with police to catch the person responsible.

"I really don't understand it, it was 9:30 on a Sunday morning. I don't know what causes someone to do that. We tried to see if we had any customers upset or anything but I think it was just a random act of destruction for no apparent reason," said Curtis.
