Police: Monroe County woman had drugs in car while young child was on-board
Police in Monroe County say a woman resisted arrest while they were taking her into custody for having marijuana in her car while her young daughter was on-board.
The Monroe County DA provided the following account of the incident:
County Detective Joseph Coddington was on field assignment serving court papers Oct. 31 in the 1000 block of State Road in Effort when he encountered 30-year-old Kimberly Maro of Effort in a car parked in the driveway.
While the detective was speaking with Maro, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the car. The detective was concerned because Maro's young daughter was in the back seat of this vehicle.
As the detective was handcuffing Maro, she tried to break free and hit the detective.
The detective was able to take Maro into custody with the assistance of Investigator Thomas Hartford from the Monroe County domestic relations department.
The detective searched the vehicle and located a small bag of marijuana and paraphernalia between the two front seats.
The child was released to her grandmother.
Maro was charged with resisting arrest and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
