HELLERTOWN, Pa. -

An Allentown man found an unusual way to become intoxicated, according to police in Northampton County.

According to Lower Saucon Twp. police, Erik Gregg Kraeft of the 1700 block of W. Elm St., was following another vehicle too closely while traveling west on Easton Road around 5:30 p.m. on March 12.

When police stopped him, they found he'd been drinking mouthwash, was under the influence and incapable of driving safely, police said.

He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Bethlehem Twp. DUI Center for further testing, and his blood alcohol concentration registered at .14%, which is nearly twice the legal limit, police said.

He was cited for following too close, general impairment and DUI high rate.
