A Family Dollar assistant manager, accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the company, said she is completely innocent.
Krystal Yvette Prieto, who works at Family Dollar near 9th and Penn streets in downtown Reading, is facing charges of conspiring to steal more than $11,000 in bank deposits from the company, according to court documents.
In an exclusive interview with 69 News, Prieto denied the allegations.
"That's not the type of person I am. That's all I'm saying."
Court documents indicate that Prieto was supposed to take the roughly $11,000 in deposits to Wells Fargo at Fairgrounds Square Mall.
Instead, authorities allege she drove to the Citgo gas station on 3rd and Buttonwood streets in Reading and agreed to have her car stolen.
The man who drove off with the car, Michael William Ortiz, was quickly spotted by police driving erratically along N. 10th Street in Reading, court documents indicate.
Ortiz was stopped, and after police searched the vehicle, they discovered $11,792.04 in deposits belonging to Family Dollar, court documents reveal.
Also, Prieto told investigators that she agreed to the plot because she was "hard up for cash," according to court documents.
Prieto would not go into detail about the case and maintained her innocence.
"It's all 'he said, she said,'" Prieto said.
Ortiz is currently behind bars on $50,000 bail.
Prieto said she has not lost her job at Family Dollar, but that she is just on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
She also says she has retained an attorney to fight the charges.
