Police are on the lookout for two men who reportedly shot a 13-year-old boy in the head with a BB gun.
The drive-by shooting hapened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Margaret and Montclair Avenue in Laureldale, Berks Co.
Initial reports from the scene were that the victim suffered a wound above one of his eyes and that people on the scene were trying to control the bleeding before police and paramedics arrived.
The victim was transported to Reading Hospital. Police said they expect him to be OK.
Dispatchers put out an advisory to police throughout Berks County to be on the lookout for a 4-door gold Acura with two men inside.
Jeff Burkhart, a former U.S. Army soldier, used his training to give the teen first aid.
"He looked like he had a laceration above the eyebrow and I put a compress on it until the ambulance and the local authorities came over," Burkhart said.
Witnesses say as many as 15 shots were fired.
Residents say when they saw the teenager on the ground, bleeding, they didn't know what to think.
"I was scared because I didn't know, like my dad said, I didn't know it was a bb gun. I thought it was an actual gun," Melissa Burkhart said.
"There's no reason for little kids to be getting hurt in the streets," said Manny Smith, neighbor. "It's a nice day. It's summer time. There's no reason for it."
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for an anonymous tip that leads to an arrest.
