Police arrest 19-year-old who threatened them
A 19-year-old Allentown man has been arrested after threatening to kill two Freemansburg police officers at a party early Sunday.
Nicholas Allan Sarnicky has been charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and purchasing alcohol as a minor.
The arrest occurred around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, after police responded to a noise complaint at 319 Main St. in Freemansburg.
Freemansburg police told people partying on the back porch and in the backyard to reduce the volume of noise. They smelled alcohol on numerous individuals and were told some were not old enough to legally drink.
Sarnicky, who was in the backyard, was confronted about under-age drinking after admitting he was 19.
Police report he began cursing at them. When advised to relax, he became more belligerent.
He continued cursing, began chest bumping the police officers by pushing his body into them and threatened to kill them. They told him to cooperate and stop resisting.
But he repeatedly pulled away, even when police told him he was under arrest and tried to handcuff him, including when they had one handcuff on him.
By swinging his body away from them, he caused both officers to fall into a fenced enclosure and a set of porch steps.
Police said Sarnicky even made vulgar and disparaging comments about the officers' wives.
His yelling and cursing woke a neighbor who had been sleeping, said police.
When they got the defendant into their patrol car, he tried to kick out the windows and damaged a door panel by kicking the inside of the vehicle.
Police said Sarnicky admitted he had too much to drink. They said he was so intoxicated that he was "a hazard to himself and the public."
Sarnicky, who resides in the 2000 block of Whitehall Ave. in Allentown, was committed to Northampton County Prison. Bail was set at $20,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 17 before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Barner in Bethlehem.
