Route 309 in Tamaqua was closed for hours Thursday because of a water main break.
The break, which occurred at Routes 309 and 209 in the Schuylkill County borough, was discovered about 6 a.m. Thursday by a PennDOT driver. Repair crews were on the scene within 30 minutes.
Route 309 had to be closed for the repair work. The road reopened about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Rob Jones, the borough's public works director, said the break was only a small crack in a 12-inch water main and was fixed with a repair clamp.
He said it didn't take long to make the repair, but digging to get to the pipe was time-consuming because of frozen ground and icy conditions.
There was no loss of water service, just low pressure in a one-block area, said Jones, who added no boil water advisory had to be issued.
