Thanks to early aggressive snowmaking and the recent cold snap, the Shawnee Mountain ski area plans to be open for skiing and snowboarding beginning Friday.
Operating hours will be 9 a.m. to 5p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Five trails that will be open for skiing and snowboarding include Hiawatha, Blue Mountain, Greenhouse Slope, Little Chief and the 5,000-foot-long Pennsylvania Trail.
Three lifts will operate. including a "beginner friendly" carpet conveyor lift and the Tomahawk Express Quad to the top.
Ski and snowboard rentals, lessons and beginner’s packages will all be available all weekend. Early season lift ticket discounts coupons and Miser package deals are available online.
Shawnee’s Pocono Plunge Snow Tubing Park also may open during Thanksgiving weekend, depending on snowmaking progress.
After the opening weekend, Shawnee Mountain will be closed until Dec. 7, when it opens for the season.
