A Schuylkill County man accidentally drowned Thursday while fishing in the Lehigh River.
According to state police, 63-year-old Paul Phillip Oravec Sr. of McAdoo waded into the river to fish near East Side/White Haven Borough line in Luzerne County around 4:30 p.m.
He fell into the river and was swept downstream by fast-moving rapids, police said.
A search was made for the victim, who was located near a small island about a mile downstream, in Kidder Twp., Carbon County.
Oravec was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy was performed Friday, and the coroner ruled Oravec died accidentally by drowning.
Police said there are no suspicious circumstances in the death investigation.
