SWIFTWATER, Pa. -

Pocono Mountain School District is in the very beginning stages of setting up a committee and sub-committees to research the possibility of establishing a standardized dress code that could result in school uniforms for the district.

"We do not have a specific date set yet on when we will have any type of proposal ready for the school board and the public to review," said district spokeswoman Wendy Frable Friday.

"We plan to gather information from the whole school community - administrators, teachers, parents, students, etc. – on the possible establishment of standard dress code.

"We also have to carefully research any impact this could have on our Title I funding, if it would be necessary to help families that cannot afford required clothing items. "

The Monroe County school district serves children in the borough of Mount Pocono, and Barrett, Coolbaugh, Jackson, Paradise, Pocono, Tobyhanna and Tunkhannock townships.

Last month all students in the Allentown School District began wearing standardized school uniforms, a policy that the district spent more than a year developing. Allentown's policy was similar to one that already existed in Reading.
