TOYBHANNA TWP., Pa. -

A Monroe County man accused of sexually assaulting his niece was arrested Thursday at a New York airport, trying to flee the country.

Police say Haggai Charlemagne, 27, of the 1800 block of Shadyside Dr., Tobyhanna Twp., was headed to Jamaica when Port Authority Police arrested him at John F. Kennedy Airport.

On Sunday, Pocono Mountain Police received information and evidence about a man, later identified as Charlemagne, who was allegedly sexually abusing his 15-year-old niece.

After searching several neighborhoods in Tobyhanna, police learned that Charlemagne fled the area.

Detectives contacted the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Custom Enforcement to have Charlemagne placed on a watch list.

After conducting interviews, police issued a warrant for Charlemagne for sex charges including involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault.
