Vasquez sentenced

COOLBAUGH TWP., Pa. -

A man convicted in the shooting deaths of two men in Monroe County has learned his fate.

A judge sentenced Luis Vasquez to 30 to 80 years in prison Monday.

Police say the Pocono Summit man shot and killed 55-year-old Bertoldo Velez and 38-year-old Joseph King inĀ  August of 2012.

The men were found at Coolbaugh Township Park.

Prosecutors say Vasquez shot the men while trying to settle a $20,000 debt.

Vasquez pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree murder on March 24.

According to his attorney, in return for the plea, first degree murder charges against Vasquez were withdrawn, as was the death penalty.
