Jeanette Strausser stole $70K from health care client, police say

Police in Monroe County say a caregiver committed a massive theft from her employer.

SWIFTWATER, Pa. -

A woman who took care of an elderly woman is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her.

Jeanette Strausser was working as a home health care provider for an 82-year-old woman who lives on Upper Swiftwater Road in Swiftwater, state police said.

While as the woman's caregiver, police said Strausser used the woman's ATM card to make personal purchases and cash withdrawals over a nine-month period.

In all, the victim lost around $70,000, police said.

Strausser, 42, of Saylorsburg, was charged with theft, identity theft, forgery, receiving stolen property and access device fraud. She was committed to the Monroe County Prison on $40,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for Thursday.
