One westbound lane of Interstate 80 is closed as police work on a fatal car accident in Carbon County.
Police said an accident at 5:50 a.m. Wednesday occurred in the westbound lanes of I-80 in Kidder Twp.
Three tractor trailers were involved and it was foggy in the area at the time of the accident.
State police said one truck was in the right hand lane traveling at a slow rate of speed, with his hazard lights on when another tractor trailer traveling faster tried to pass first in the left lane.
The driver of the second tractor trailer hit the trailer of the first with his passenger side, and the second truck was disabled in the left lane.
A third tractor trailer traveling in the right lane tried to avoid a collision with the first tractor trailer but wasn't able to move out of the lane. It crashed into the rear of the first tractor.
The driver of the third tractor trailer was pronounced dead at the scene, due to blunt force trauma from the impact, police said.
The drivers of the two other trucks were taken to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
The truck operators' names have not been released.
Police said one person was killed, but there's no word on whether anyone else was injured.
One westbound lane reopened around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
