Work has begun to expand and renovate the Lehighton Fire Station in Lehighton, Carbon Co.
The project, which primarily features a two-story addition to the existing fire station, is being done by Alvin H. Butz Inc. and is being funded with the help of state grants.
"We are happy to be working with Alvin H. Butz Inc.'s experienced project team members on these renovations," said Nicole Beckett, borough manager. "When completed, the new fire station will provide an efficient and updated facility by rehabilitating two older fire stations that are located within the same block."
Features of the 14,000 square-foot expansion will include five new truck bays, a kitchen and dining/day room, a laundry room, classrooms for training and a shower area for volunteer firefighters to shower or change into clean clothes upon returning from a call, said officials, adding that the existing facility will also be modernized.
"Our project team will work closely with the borough of Lehighton and the fire department to ensure that this addition and renovation meets all of the department’s needs," said Greg L. Butz, president and CEO, Alvin H. Butz Inc.
The project is expected to be complete in November.
