PINE GROVE, Pa. -

Sparks from a demolition crew's tool sparked an inferno that eventually destroyed a building being torn down, officials said.

The fire started around 1 p.m. Monday in the building that once housed a sewing factory and a bottling plant at 18 Spruce St. in Pine Grove, Schuylkill County.

Workers were using a grinder to remove bolts from steel beams when sparks ignited some scaffolding, and the flames quickly extended to the building, investigators said Tuesday.

The blaze rose to three alarms, drawing a response of firefighters from throughout Schuylkill County and neighboring Berks County.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion; another suffered a cut on an arm from falling glass, officials said.
