Monroe County detectives have put out a plea for the public's help in finding a woman whose been on the run from the law for nearly a year, officials said.

Mesunga McCree is accused of committing housing fraud by having unauthorized people living with her on Sweet Fern Road in Albrightsville while she was receiving Section 8 housing assistance.

Some of the individuals, detectives said, had a criminal record that would have prevented McCree from obtaining the federal assistance. McCree received $14,546 in benefits that she was not entitled to, detectives said.

McCree has been charged with theft by deception-false impressions, theft by deception and unsworn falsification to authorities.

Detectives obtained a felony warrant for McCree's arrest on March 3, but they haven't been able to locate her. They said she has ties to North Carolina and Newark, N.J., and is known to change her appearance.

Anyone with information regarding McCree's whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Joseph Coddington at 570-517-3052.
