If you live in the 570 area code, get ready to work a little harder to call your neighbors.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission said callers can now begin using 10 digits every time they place a call from the 570 area code.
Still, if a caller uses just the seven digits without the area code, the call will go through, for now.
Starting Sept. 21, callers will be required to dial the entire number, including the area code from the 570 area code for local calls.
If customers forget and dial only the seven numbers, they'll hear a recorded message telling them to hang up and dial again, including the area code.
The PUC reminded businesses and residents that their phone numbers will not change, and what is now a local call will still be a local call; they'll just have to include an area code.
