PORT CARBON, Pa. -

A 40-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a tractor trailer early Thursday.

The accident happened around 1:15 a.m. on Route 209, near Anderson Street, in Port Carbon, Schuylkill Co., about two miles northeast of Pottsville.

The truck driver didn't notice the pedestrian crouched over in the middle of the southbound lane of Route 209 and couldn't avoid hitting him, state police said.

After impact, the victim rolled along the west berm of the highway, where he came to rest about 90 feet away.

Sean Malone, of Port Carbon, died at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the truck, David Manns, 42, of Pottstown, Montgomery Co., was not hurt.

Route 209, between Anderson and Coal streets, was closed for about three-and-a-half hours while investigators reconstructed the crash scene.
