Terrifying moments in Philadelphia tonight after a mechanical failure sent passengers on a U-S Airways flight running.

Passengers were evacuated from a Florida-bound plane following an aborted takeoff at Philadelphia International Airport.

US Airways Flight 1702 was heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when the pilot was forced to abort the takeoff around 6:30 p.m. Thursday after the front landing gear collapsed, according to airline officials.

An airport spokeswoman said two passengers asked for medical assistance, but no serious injuries were reported

The Airbus 320 was carrying 149 passengers and five crew, spokeswoman Victoria Lupica said. All were rescheduled on departing flights Thursday night.

Lupica said three of the four runways were reopened within a few hours of the crash and only the runway on which the accident occurred remained closed.
