Pickup overturns in snow on ramp from Route 183 to Route 222 South in Bern Township

Scot Powell was in the right place at the right time when he helped rescue two women trapped inside their pickup truck.
Powell was already in the middle of helping a familiar driver he spotted on the side of the road Friday morning.
His lawyer, Lynn Erickson, was broken down near the ramp from Route 183 to 222 South in Bern Twp., Berks Co.
"I've known him for years and he said, 'Hey, why don't you just wait in my car for the tow truck,'" said Erickson.
So she did, but their casual conversation turned to panic in an instant when they saw a pickup truck lose control in the snow and flip over.
"I just happened to look up and I saw the truck fishtail, hit the guardrail, go up and do a complete roll and it landed on its side," said Powell, who sprung into action.
Powell ordered his girlfriend and Erickson to call 911. He ran out and climbed on top of the truck and fought to open the front door.
"It was actually pretty heavy. It was locked at first and one woman managed to unlock it and get it up. It was a lot of weight," said Powell.
The passenger was lying on the bottom of the truck and the driver was clinging to the steering wheel. Both women were conscious, and Powell managed to pull them to safety.
Now, he's being called a hero.
"This was above and beyond the call of duty. I mean, other cars were driving by and he was up there by himself pulling them out," said Erickson.
"Anybody that's seen something like that, human compassion makes you stop. I thought somebody was going to be hurt. I'm glad they weren't," said Powell.
Amazingly, the women were not hurt.
Emergency crews arrived and Powell went about the rest of his day, which happened to include taking Erickson to work.
Believe it or not, Powell said he found himself in a similar situation about 15 years ago when a milk truck overturned and he helped pull that driver out.
Powell said if it were to happen a third time, he wouldn't hesitate to help.
