WILSON, Pa. -

A man who stole clothing from a department store is facing a felony charge because of two previous convictions for retail theft, officials said.

Peter Athanasatos was caught with $159.99 worth of clothing hidden in his pants as he tried to leave the Kmart at 320 South 25th St., Wilson, Northampton Co., around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Store security told police Athanasatos made off with $127 worth of merchandise two days earlier, before he could be stopped, officials said.

Athanasatos, 34, of 198 Mercer St., Phillipsburg, Warren Co., N.J., has two previous shoplifting convictions -- June 4, 1997, and Aug. 27, 2001, both in Whitehall Township, Lehigh Co. -- so he was arraigned on a felony retail theft charge, officials said.

He was committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, court papers show.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 19.
