Shillington standoff: 17-year-old found, safe, not inside home

The teenager who was believed to be barricaded inside a Shillington home has been found -- but not inside the home.
The 17-year-old, a Governor Mifflin High School student was found in Spring Township, Berks Co., police say.
It all started because the teen got into an argument with his mom, investigators said.
Police then rushed to the home believing shots had been fired inside the residence, officials said.
The Berks County Emergency Response Team (BCERT) arrived on South Miller Street near Madison Street around 6 p.m. Thursday.
Police worked to coax the teen out of his home for three-and-a-half hours.
They were heard speaking to him through a megaphone, asking him to come out of the home, or at least to use his cell phone to call his father, who was waiting anxiously outside.
Since the student's friends were in the crowd of onlookers, police called on them to try to get in touch with the teen.
"I'm just concerned about him, and I hope he just comes outside and cooperates with them and he doesn't get in that much trouble," said Preston Correll, one of the teen's good friends.
After a few text messages from friends, police said the teen was found in Spring Township.
"One of the Cumru Township police officers responded to the area that we thought he may be in, and was able to locate him," said Chief Brett Hivner, Shillington Police Department. " He was walking in the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Harvard Boulevard in Spring Township."
The hours passed slowly for the teen's family who waited outside while dozens of heavily armed officers aimed rifles at the home.
"Just worried about him, making sure he didn't get shot accident," said Edwin Acevedo, the teen's uncle.
The teen was sent to the Reading Hospital to be evaluated, police said.
No word on whether assault charges will be filed against the 17-year-old student for the incident involving his mother, police said.
