Pennsylvania State Police seek candidates for summer's Camp Cadet

READING, Pa. -

Pennsylvania State Police Troop L is looking for boys and girls interested in attending the annual Camp Cadet.

Applications for the summer camp, held Aug. 10 - 16 at Camp Conrad Weiser in South Heidleberg Township, Berks County, are now available online or by visiting any of the Troop L stations in Reading; Tilden Township, Berks County; Jonestown, Lebanon County; Frackville, Schuylkill County; or Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County.

Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 15 years of age and live in Berks, Lebanon or Schuylkill counties.

Selected cadets will see presentations of various law enforcement specialties, including bomb squad, K-9 and aviation. They will also participate in marksmanship, swimming and horseback riding.

The purpose of the camp, state police said, is to instill self-discipline, self-respect, and self-esteem in the cadets.

Applications must be submitted by May 31. The cost for camp is $90. The camp is also funded by sponsors, fundraisers and donations.
