HARRISBURG, Pa. -

"Pennsylvania is a better place because of Congressman Jim Gerlach’s service," said Rob Gleason, chairman , Republican Party of Pennsylvania, reacting to Gerlach's announcement Monday not to seek a seventh term in the United States House of Representatives.

"Throughout his time in Congress, Jim Gerlach has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his constituents and ensure their voices were heard in Washington," Gleason said. "We will now start the work to elect a Republican to Congress who will succeed Jim and bring the same dedication that has served the people of the 6th District so well."

No one -- Republican or Democrat -- has yet to officially come forward and express an interest in running for Gerlach's seat. The district is made up of parts of Berks, Chester, Lebanon and Montgomery counties.

Gerlach, 58, was first elected to Congress in 2002. He said he chose not to run for re-election so that he can pursue new challenges and spend more time with his wife and family.
