A Montgomery County police officer who died in the line of duty almost two years ago is being honored.
A portion of Route 263 in Bucks County will soon be renamed "Officer Bradley M. Fox Memorial Highway" after fallen Plymouth Township Officer Brad Fox.
"It gives them a permanent memorial that would never be changed," said Chief Joseph Lawrence with the Plymouth Township Police Department.
Plymouth Township Police Chief Joseph Lawrence says Officer Fox was a really great guy.
Fox was fatally shot on September 13, 2012 as he was chasing a suspect involved in a hit and run.
"It is not just Brad but it is everybody that wears a uniform, whether it is police, fire, EMS or military. They die serving the people they want to protect and that is what I want people to remember. Brad died doing what he loved to do, protecting them," said Lawrence.
Fox was a seven-year veteran of the force and a Marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq.
The Fox family chose the section of Route 263 that is in front of an ice rink, where Fox played ice hockey as a youth.
"It says a lot, not just about Brad, but the people in the community. The community will not let it die. They will not let people forget which is a great thing," said Lawrence.
A dedication ceremony is planned for later this year.
