Pamela Fischel charged with hiding grandson from his father
A Lehigh County grandmother is in jail accused of concealing the whereabouts of her grandson.
Pamela L. Fischel, 66, of the 700 block of E. Goepp Street in Bethlehem, is charged with concealing the whereabouts of a child.
Fischel took her 15-year-old grandson to St. Luke's Hospital on Saturday around 5 p.m., saying the boy's father assaulted him the day before, police said.
The father has full legal custody of the teen.
According to court documents, officials of Children and Youth Services responded to St. Luke's early on Monday to investigate the alleged assault, but they found no visible signs of an assault.
CYS determined the teen should be returned to the father's home and the investigation would be ongoing, police said, but the father told police the boy had been released from the hospital and had left with Fischel.
When police contacted Fischel she told them the boy wasn't at her home, that he was in a safe place, but wouldn't tell police where he was.
Police told Fischel she could face criminal charges if she didn't tell police where the boy was, and she told them she would go to jail any day to protect her grandson.
The boy's whereabouts are still unknown.
Fischel was arraigned Wednesday and bail was set at $20,000.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 24.
