Both the Lehigh Valley and Reading are seeing their lowest unemployment rates in years.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -

The unemployment rate has dropped to its lowest level in years in both the Lehigh Valley and Reading.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, the jobless rate in the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton region fell four tenths of a percentage point to 6.8% in January. That's the lowest it's been since November, 2008.

The report says approximately 2,200 non-farm jobs were added throughout the region in January.

In Reading, the unemployment rate dropped five tenths of a percentage point to 6.4%. That's also the lowest it's been since November, 2008. But the report says the total of seasonally adjusted non-farm jobs dropped by about 300, due to the winter weather.

The Pennsylvania unemployment rate currently sits at 6.4%, and the national rate is at 6.6%.
