2 injured in Pittsburgh mine collapse

Authorities say two miners were injured in a partial ceiling collapse in a western Pennsylvania coal mine.

The collapse happened Monday afternoon at the Tracy Lynne mine operated by Rosebud Mining of Kittanning, about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says a section of rock fell from the ceiling and struck two miners, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

Officials said no other injuries were reported.

Rick Murphy of the state Bureau of Mine Safety says the two miners were were taken to a hospital, including one with a possible knee injury.

The miners were brought to the surface just after 6 p.m. after a rescue effort that began about an hour earlier.

State and federal mine officials are investigating.
