Police in Lancaster County are investigating after a two-month-old baby was shot and killed.

LANCASTER, Pa. -

A county coroner in central Pennsylvania says an infant is dead after a Christmas Eve shooting.

Lancaster County coroner Dr. Stephen Diamontoni said a 2-month-old baby was shot on Tuesday afternoon at the Countryside Apartment Complex at 2165 Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township.

The child had been shot by a bullet from a family member's firearm, police said.

The infant had been resuscitated on its way to Lancaster General Hospital but was later declared dead, the coroner said.

Circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, the family is cooperating with police and no charges have been filed, police said.

The coroner says an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
