Oh deer! Day-after-Christmas shoppers caught by surprise

Day-after-Christmas shoppers got more than they bargained for when a deer decided to make its way inside a local sporting goods store.
The deer walked through the front door of Dick's Sporting Goods store at the Broadcasting Square shopping center in Spring Twp., Berks Co., around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, said Brad Meyer, the store's manager.
"The scene was chaotic. Everyone had their phones out taking pictures," said Eric Shemanski, of Muhlenberg Township, who captured a picture of his own.
Shemanski got a first-hand glimpse of the deer. He said he was waiting for his mom to check out when he saw the deer dart through the front doors of the store.
"Next thing I know, a man tackles the deer until professional help can come and he is laying on the deer," said Shemanski.
Shemanski could not believe what he was seeing, so you can imagine other customers could not believe what they were hearing.
"It is just scary and funny," said Maynard Brinkley, of Pottstown, Montgomery Co.
"That is kind of crazy," said Ava Posta, of Sinking Spring.
"That is weird. I would not expect that to happen around here," said Jack Baker, of Wyomissing.
But what had customers so perplexed about the entire thing is that, out of all of stores, the deer chose Dick's.
"A deer, you would think, would want to walk into a store that does not have rifles and other sporting good equipment," said Stephanie Dietrich, of Blandon.
"He could have walked into any store, but he picked Dick's. It is just comical," said Brinkley.
No one was injured, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission escorted the deer out of the store. Witnesses said it was a sight to see.
"Everyone was just surrounding it, taking pictures because it is so odd," said Shemanski.
And a memorable one at that.
