The North Whitehall Township Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to renew its annual tax resolution at Monday’s council meeting in Coplay.
The township’s property tax will remain at a millage of .5 and the income tax will stay at half of one percent.
“This is just end-of-the-year housekeeping,” said Treasurer Brenda Norder of the decision to extend this years’ taxes into 2014.
In other business, the board approved a motion proposed by community member Glenn Stetter to formally request that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation create a school zone area so that cars will adhere to crossing students.
“Apparently a lot of cars are blowing right through,” said Vice Chairman Steve Pany. “He wants a zoned school area.”
The board showed strong support for the initiative and approved it unanimously.
“If the elementary school is closer than others, absolutely,” said supervisor Mark Hills, in reference to another area school in which a school zone is already imposed.
The board also addressed several land subdivision and lot line adjustment items, including the thirteenth lot in Parkland Pointe and the lot on Overlook Road. In both cases the board tabled discussions pending improvements on current plans and drawings.
“I’d just like the drawings cleaner because if we don’t request it now, we’ll never get it,” said Steve Pany.
As of this November, the township’s balance stands at over $7.84 million. The final budget meeting will be December 16 at 7 p.m.
