A man accused of shooting and killing a young mother has pleaded not guilty, rejecting a plea deal.
Salim Newton is accused in the death of Melissa Williams, 22 at the time of her death, who was shot multiple times inside her Spruce Alley, Phillipsburg, New Jersey home in September 2013.
Newton took off after the shooting and was apprehended by U.S. marshals in Richmond, Virginia weeks later.
Williams was a mother of two.
According to Mark Bailey, Newton's attorney, Newton pleaded not guilty Friday, rejecting a plea to aggravated manslaughter and other charges with a sentence of 22 years.
Bailey says there will be a status conference in October.
