NEWARK, N.J. -

As Cory Booker's national profile has risen, so has his income.

The Democratic mayor of Newark is now running for U.S. Senate in New Jersey. His campaign released 15 years of his tax returns Friday.

Booker made more than $400,000 from giving speeches in 2011, and nearly $350,000 last year.

Booker saw his income skyrocket from about $40,000 when he was a Newark city councilman in 1998 to $472,571 last year. 2011 was especially lucrative for him; he made more than $700,000.

Booker also has received hefty payouts from a law firm he helped found. He left the firm when he became mayor in 2006, and he has made $688,500 from it since.

The returns show Booker has few assets, and has made about $100,000 on stock sales.
