Apple picking in Boyertown

BOYERTOWN, Pa. -

Fall is in full swing, and for many, that means apple picking!

Frecon Farms in Boyertown, Berks Co., says it's prime time for them right now. They grow for their own store, local farmers' markets, and wholesale.

You can also pick-your-own on weekends.

Steve Frecon, one of the owners of Frecon Farms, says apple picking is a fun family activity. He says it's a good chance to get everyone together, spend time outdoors, and to learn about food.

Once you've picked the apples, Frecon says there are hundreds of things to do with them. From apple cider to pie, cake, streudel, butter, applesauce, wine, and more!

Frecon says it was feast or famine for many growers this year and they were fortunate to have missed an early spring frost that destroyed some crops.

Happy harvest!
