Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge Rehabilitation Project
EASTON, Pa. -

A combination of predicted subzero temperatures and 10 mph winds is forcing a 24-hour delay in the latest stage of rehabilitation work on Route 22's Easton-Phillipsburg toll bridge over the Delaware River.

Overnight lane closures that were scheduled to begin in both directions Monday night have been postponed until Tuesday because of the forecast, announced the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

Single-lane travel patterns will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly through Thursday. Traffic also will be restricted to a single lane 8 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.

The eastbound single lane travel restriction will begin at Cemetery Curve in Easton and extend across the bridge.  The westbound single-lane will begin before the toll plaza in Phillipsburg and extend across the bridge.

The lane closures will enable work crews to install a two-tiered, tarp-enshrouded work platform along a large portion of the bridge's superstructure. Once in place, it will enable workers to prepare and repaint the bridge's massive steel truss during  spring and summer.

Round-the-clock lane closures in are expected to begin later in March.
