FREEMANSBURG, Pa. -

A passenger in a car began acting nervous during a traffic stop in Northampton County and with good reason -- he had cocaine in a box under his seat, officials said.

Pedro Lopez, who had part of a six pack of beer between his feet, made police suspicious by acting jumpy after the beige 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis he was riding in was over pulled over at Pembroke Road and Garfield Street in Freemansburg just before 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the car, who was wanted on arrest warrants out of Lehigh County, agreed to a search of the vehicle, and police found an open cardboard box partially under Lopez's seat with about 40 grams of cocaine, along with a scale and spoon covered with residue.

Police also confiscated two cell phones and a large sum of cash, officials added.

Lopez, 35, of 856 N. Ulster St., Allentown, was arraigned on drug charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $30,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 11.
