Neighbor: 118 animals in shed should have been rescued a long time ago

"Filthy" is how the Pennsylvania SPCA describes a Northampton County shed where workers found 118 animals cooped up this week.
A neighbor claims she alerted police to the problem months ago, but nothing was done.
From outside the home in the 3400 block of Daniels Road in Upper Nazareth Township, the searing smell of animal waste is the only clue about what allegedly went on inside a shed behind the house.
Wednesday night, police and the Pennsylvania SPCA took 118 dogs, cats, chickens, and pigeons away from the home.
"It should have been done a long time ago," said neighbor Lynzee Kudera.
Kudera lives across the street and claimed she alerted police and the Northampton Co. SPCA months ago. She's angry it took so long for authorities to finally move in.
"I contacted the police a couple of months ago and I asked them what to do, because it smells awful," said Kudera. "When the wind blows this way, you just smell it."
Kudera said, it wasn't until an accident occurred on the property that police began investigating. Upper Nazareth Police were unavailable for comment Friday evening.
As for the animals allegedly hoarded inside, the SPCA hopes to find all of them new homes.
"We're still conducting the evaluations on some of the animals," said SPCA spokeswoman Sarah Eremus. "Many of them are in our shelter hospital receiving treatment."
Kudera was shocked to learn just how many animals authorities found inside the small shed.
"I had no clue," she said. "I knew that they had probably four or five dogs and a handful of cats. I know that she had birds in the house, but I never knew -- never knew that many."
So far, the home's female resident has not been criminally charged, but the Eremus said charges are pending. A woman at the home Friday evening refused to comment on the case.
