A college in New York City has banned a fraternity after a student's death in an alleged initiation ritual in Pennsylvania.
Baruch College said it has instituted a lifetime ban of Pi Delta Psi, college President Mitchel Wallerstein announced Wednesday.
Authorities in Monroe County are investigating the Dec. 8 death of 19-year-old freshman Chun "Michael" Deng, who died after a weekend with about 30 Pi Delta Psi members at a rented house in the Poconos.
Authorities said the pledge suffered a fatal brain injury after running a gauntlet blindfolded, with a heavy weight on his back.
Wallerstein told Baruch students and staffers the school is conducting a review. He said some students haven't cooperated.
The national Pi Delta Psi fraternity has revoked its affiliation with the Baruch chapter.
