EXETER TWP., Pa. -

Several local student musicians will take their place in the national spotlight as members of the band that will lead the 85th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Macy's Great American Marching Band, comprised of 200 of the country's finest musicians and 50 band front members from all 50 states, is produced by Exeter Twp., Berks Co.-based Music Festivals.

The band, under the direction of Dr. Richard Good, director of bands at Auburn University, has been leading the Macy's parade in Manhattan since 2006, said Dennis Rhoads, owner, Music Festivals.

The local students chosen to participate in this year's band include Brian Selman, a cymbal player from Wilson High School in Berks Co.; Sarah Miller, a piccolo player from Fleetwood High School in Berks Co.; Jeffrey Lazarchick, an alto sax player from Blue Mountain High School in Schuylkill Co.; Jessica Zelenak, a clarinet player from Emmaus High School in Lehigh Co.; and Stephen Yale, a trumpet player from Freedom High School in Bethlehem.

The participants are selected based on their musical ability and past achievements. In addition to marching in the parade, they are treated to a 6-night stay and sightseeing in New York City.
