Rescue crews worked about 30 minutes Friday afternoon to free a woman from her wrecked car on the West Shore Bypass in Berks County.

WEST READING, Pa. -

Rescue crews worked about 30 minutes Friday afternoon to free a woman from her wrecked car on the West Shore Bypass in Berks County.

The woman was waiting to merge on the ramp from the Penn Street Bridge to the westbound lanes of Route 422 in West Reading when police said she was struck from behind by another car whose driver was going too fast to avoid a collision.

The impact of the crash pushed the woman's Volkswagen Beetle into the path of traffic on the bypass.

Fortunately, police said, a Doritos delivery truck driver was able to stop his truck in time and block both lanes of travel to avoid another collision.

Rescue crews freed the VW's driver, who was taken to the hospital for treatment of a broken arm, police said.

The other driver was not injured.
