Bank robbery leads to wild chase

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

A suspected bank robber and the woman accused of driving the getaway car are in custody following a high-speed pursuit through downtown Reading.

It all began around 4 p.m. Monday with the robbery of the M&T Bank on Route 61, also known as the Pottsville Pike, in Muhlenberg Township, according to police.

A GPS tracker helped lead police south onto North 5th Street in Reading where officers identified a red Mazda Miata with Delaware plates.

Police spotted the suspect car in Reading and gave chase, criss crossing several streets in center city before the car -- traveling at high rates of speed --led officers across the Bingaman Street Bridge and east on the West Shore Bypass to the Mount Penn exit in Exeter Township.

After they took the  Neversink Road exit, Exeter police laid down spike stripes and deflated two of the vehicles tires, police said.  The car then hit a guard rail.

The driver, Jaime Lynn Dillon, 36, of South Fourth Street in Reading, was arrested at the scene.

Her passenger, Freddie Dee Allen Willis, 30, also of South Fourth Street in Reading, fled the scene with a purple bag.  He made his way into a wooded area nearby but was caught when he tried to leave the woods.

The money was recovered.

Both Dillon and Willis are facing charges of bank robbery, theft, fleeing and alluding police and other charges.
